The Story
When you search for the truth... You better pray you don't find it.
The story was inspired by declassified top secret files about the “Falcon Lake Incident”, a UFO encounter near the remote town of Falcon Lake, Manitoba, Canada which occurred on
May 20, 1967.
43 years later, a Chicago woman, Donna Thomas is mysteriously killed while studying a rare wild plant in the woods near Falcon Lake. She was staying with her brother the famed
UCLA quantum physics research scientist, Dr. Mike Verrücktmann, who came to Falcon Lake to investigate the UFO incident. She was found with part of with her head and torso burned.
2 years after his mothers death, her son Dan, a disgruntled 20 year old, with his unforgiving conservative Christian father, hits the breaking point with his father and leaves home. He travels to Falcon Lake to stay with his uncle Mike.
Shortly after he arrives, he meets a beautiful, alluring young woman, Cheyna, and together they search for answers about his mother’s death. They find out more than they want, discovering a strange entity in the woods. When the entity takes an interest in them, the story goes from an adventurous quest for answers to a terrifying life and death show down.

The Cast
The Crew
Writer, Producer, Director |
Dale Windle |
At the ripe young age of 58, Dale is fulfilling a lifelong dream shooting his first feature length film, the sci-fi thriller Rulers of Darkness.
Dale crafted the story, wrote the screenplay with the help of Thomas Jardine, and is the producer and director.
Dale has a history of success in several fields, but he went into these work areas out of necessity, not out of passion. |
|
When Dale was a teenager, he started making films with his Dad's super 8mm camera, winning awards and accolades from the local arts community. But his father said no to this as a vocation and insisted that Dale become a “professional”. So his parents and high school counselors decided Dale would be an architect.
After 15 years working as a professional architect, Dale left the profession and 20 years ago started his own IT management consulting company. Although Dale has developed this into a flourishing and successful business, this too isn't his true passion.
In 2010 after 3 friends tragically died in a head on car crash, Dale made a decision to pursue his passions before it was too late. So he headed off to film school at the Millennium Film Workshop in New York City. He came back and wrote, produced, directed and filmed his first film – a hilarious 22 minute comedy, called American Idle, about lazy non-productive “workers” taking part in a contest to be selected as the idlest person in America.
While continuing to run his IT management consulting business, Dale has now written a feature length screenplay and is producing and directing his first full length feature film, the sci-fi thriller Rulers of Darkness.
Dale’s is a classic story of finally pursuing your dreams, or as Dale puts is: It’s never too late to have a happy childhood! |

Sound Recordist, Mixer and Boom Operator |
Adam Bowick |
Adam is a super experienced and knowledgeable location sound person. He also is a keen observer and thinker and knows a lot generally about the film business. He provided guidance
and training to Jon Sydor (below) and was a valuable asset to Dale's collaborative team on set. |

Sound Recordist, Mixer and Boom Operator |
Jon Sydor |
Jon is an experienced sound person but this was his first film project. Under the tutelage of Adam Bowick, he did an excellent job booming, mixing and recording sound when Adam was not on set, which was about 10 of the 17 shooting days. Thanks Jon! |

Makeup Artist |
Sarah Millar |
Sarah had a dream to be a makeup artist on films, so we gave her a chance... guess what? She was awesome. Sarah did an amazing job, creating the visual mood for each actor: tired, sad, old... you name it. She also created our blood for our SFX. Great job Sarah - Thanks! |
